Removing fleas from the house is no longer that difficult to do as numerous techniques have been developed. There are actually several methods you can use. To get rid of the infestation and keep these pests away, follow these suggestions.

Check Your Pet

Fleas almost always get in your home via your pet, so you should look there. Hold your pet and part the hair. The fleas will be there, scampering in every direction.

If you can’t spot the fleas but you suspect they are there, you need to use a flea comb. These flea combs are specially designed to get rid of these pests. To use, comb the pet’s head just around the ears.

Also comb the legs and the areas around the tail. Make sure there is a mixture of water and liquid soap near you. When the fleas get stuck in the comb, dip them in the solution. Repeat this procedure until all the fleas on your pet are gone.

Vacuum the Place

If there are many fleas on your pet, chances are they have spread to various parts of the house. Vacuum the following areas: the pet bed, the area under every bed in the house, carpets and rugs. You should clean dingy corners around the house.

In particular you should vacuum the spaces behind furniture and the skirting boards. Don’t forget to clean your pet’s toys. Also look at the furniture too; the fleas may already be there.

How to Use an Insecticide Spray

This can help in removing fleas from the house, especially if there is an IGR ingredient. IGR stands for Insect Growth Regulator. This ingredient will help not just kill the pests but also prevent the smaller ones from growing and spreading.

Spray on rugs, carpets and every part of the house your pet frequents. Also spray under the bed and other corners around the house. If necessary, move the furniture around to make spraying easier.

Note: use the insecticide only as indicated. Make certain pets are removed from the area before applying the spray. Usually the area has to be vacuumed after a week. This may vary per product; follow what is instructed.

Other Ways to Control Fleas

Flea control should not be limited to cleaning the house. The yard must be cleaned too. If there are fleas in the yard, your pet will contract them and bring them back into the house.

Use the insecticide in the areas your pet frequently goes to in the yard. In particular pay close attention to any sandy areas in the garden. Other places in the garden prone to these pests are the veranda, doghouse and patio.

You should also clean up deadwood, fallen leaves and pools of stagnant water. This will not only keep pests away but also other pests from getting to your pet.

Removing fleas from the house takes time, but you need to persevere. When the fleas are finally gone, make sure you apply anti-flea treatment on your pet so the pests don’t come back.
