There are several techniques you can use to kill fleas in the house. Keep in mind that eliminating the fleas on your pet alone will not solve the problem. Research shows that less than 6% of the pests will be on your pet; the rest will have scattered all over the house, hence the need for total extermination.

Use the Vacuum Cleaner

Begin by removing the fleas on your pet with a flea comb. Now vacuum the whole house. The most frequent places these pests hide in are under furniture, dark crevices, rugs and pet beds. Make sure the nozzle is hooked up to your vacuum.

Vacuum all the fixture edges and every baseboard in the house. You will see the fleas being sucked in by the vacuum. In addition, the fleas in the cocoon will be eliminated as well. Aside from the fleas, their eggs and larvae and pupae are sucked up by the vacuum too.

The Eggs, Larvae and Pupae

The eggs are often found on the floor and rugs. These eggs turn into larvae, the worm like organisms that hide in the crevices and floor boards. The larvae will start to pupate. This means they will make a cocoon where they will turn into fleas.

To kill fleas in the house effectively, it is important that you vacuum as many of the pupae as possible. Once you are finished vacuuming, throw away the contents of the cleaner.

Spray Treatment is Essential

There are many types of flea treatment sprays available. No matter what you buy, ensure there is IGR (Insect Growth Regulator) among the ingredients. IGR is a protein that prevents the eggs from reaching maturity. The IGR also stops fleas from laying eggs. This prevents them from multiplying.

Use a fogger, aerosol or flea bomb to spray floors, carpets and every area in the house your pet goes to. Aside from the IGR, be certain the spray states that it will kill these pests. You can also use a pressure sprayer.

Flea Foggers and Flea Bombs

These are two of the most effective tools you can use to eliminate fleas. Make sure the fogger or bomb you buy has IGR. These are set off in the room, but for maximum efficiency, move aside any furniture on carpets. This will help the fogger work the carpet more fully.

There are also compact and handheld foggers available. Do not set these into the lock position so it can work more effectively. If the infestation is widespread, use a fogger that comes with a knockdown agent. Some foggers can also be used under appliances.

Do not use the flea spray, fogger or flea bomb until every living creature in the room has been removed. Use a top-spot treatment to get rid of fleas on your pet. Follow the product inductions on how to apply it.

The advances in technology have made it easier to kill fleas in the house. After following the suggestions above, your home will be free of these pests.
